Cancer Community Links is a service funded by the North Central London Cancer Alliance and delivered by Public Voice. It aims to meet the needs of people living with or beyond cancer once they leave hospital care.

On 22nd September, Cancer Community Links celebrated its first birthday by hosting a Coffee Morning at Tottenham Town Hall, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that raises money to provide vital cancer services, research and campaigns for better cancer care. People all over the UK host their own Coffee Morning and donations raised on the day are made to Macmillan.

Cancer Community Links is a service funded by the North Central London Cancer Alliance and delivered by Public Voice. The social prescribing service strives to connect patients living with or beyond cancer to information and support within Haringey, especially to those who live in areas that need support the most.

Cancer Community Links works with GP surgeries to reach out to eligible patients and then invites them to use the service.

For Zoe Douglas, Cancer Community Links Manager, and Janet Martin, Cancer Community Link Worker, the coffee morning was also an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks to the numerous organisations who have supported them over the last year, helping to make the much-needed service a reality.

Over the last year, Zoe and Janet have supported over 100 patients, making a real difference in their day-to-day lives.

Some of the attendees at the coffee morning included:

  • Sharon Cavanagh and Shelly Eugene, Programme Managers at North Central London Cancer Alliance;
  • Casey Galloway, Macmillan Personalised Cancer Care Project Manager at Whittington Hospital;
  • Cathy Yuet Ying, founder of Somerset Garden Volunteers and a retired Macmillan nurse;
  • Members of SGV.
  • Simon Wears, Health and Wellbeing Manager at Tottenham Spur Foundation;
  • And the staff at the Tottenham Foodbank.

The event was a great success, with Cancer Community Links hitting their target to raise over £128 for Macmillan, with the possibility of more donations in the coming weeks.
